Doodle grooming in Kitchener and Waterloo, at your door

A doodle coat grows, tangles and rarely stops. Here is what yours needs, how often, and what each size costs.

First grooms start spring 2027.

Doodle owners usually find us with a coat problem and a city in the search box. This page answers both. It covers what a doodle coat is, how often to book, what every size costs on our price list, and what to do between visits. Your own city page, Kitchener or Waterloo, shows whether the van comes to your street.

What a doodle coat actually is

"Doodle coat" is not one coat. A goldendoodle or labradoodle can be straight, wavy, curly or fleece-textured, the coat can differ within the same litter, and it can change as a puppy matures. Wavy and fleece coats are the tricky ones, because they can both shed and mat. Our price list sorts dogs into five coat groups, and poodles and doodles sit in "Curly or doodle". If you are not sure, choose the closest match when you book. Your groomer confirms at the door, and if your dog belongs in a different group we text you the corrected price and wait for your yes before starting.

How often to groom a goldendoodle

The published advice does not agree on one number, which is itself useful to know. Grooming-industry sources range from every 4 to 6 weeks for a dense curly coat to every 6 to 8 weeks for most goldendoodles, and agree that stretching to 12 weeks usually leads to matting. So the honest answer is every 4 to 8 weeks depending on the coat, and shorter if your dog is active outdoors. If you cannot keep the longer cadence, a shorter haircut is a better answer than a longer gap.

Many owners rebook before the van leaves. The Groom Club is built around exactly that rhythm, and the member price for a doodle is shown in the savings example further down.

What each size costs

These are the real prices for the Curly or doodle coat group, before 13% HST. A mini and a standard goldendoodle can be several sizes apart, and weight decides the size, not the breed name. The minimum visit charge is stated under each table.

Brushing between visits

Mats form between visits and not during them, so the work that keeps a doodle comfortable happens at home. Groomers generally advise brushing every day or two, and daily for a curly coat. Go to the places that tangle first: behind the ears, under the collar and harness, the armpits, the belly and the back of the legs. Brush down to the skin in layers, not just across the top, because a coat that feels smooth on the surface can be packed underneath.

A groomer can only clip under a mat, so a coat that has been left for months often has to come off close to the skin. That is a coat problem, not a groomer's preference, and it is why the interval matters more than any single visit. Mats trap moisture and cut airflow to the skin, and even mild ones can irritate it. The veterinary source here is the ASPCA, which describes severe mats forming wounds, most often on a limb.

After a walk

Dogs in Kitchener must stay on leash outside designated off-leash areas, and Laurel Creek Conservation Area allows only leashed dogs on marked trails, so a doodle's walks often run through long grass and brush. Region of Waterloo Public Health advises precautions in wooded and bushy areas and in tall grass, and says ticks can ride a pet indoors, so run your fingers through a curly coat after those walks. A dense coat hides a tick well. The rules for each city are on our dog licence and leash rules page.

If your doodle is already matted

We still groom matted doodles, and the approach is different from a normal visit. The groomer shows you the mats and texts the cost, and nothing starts until you reply yes. Matting is priced at $25 per 15 minutes of extra time. A short clip is sometimes the kinder option, and your groomer will say so. The whole process is on our matted coat page.

Not a doodle?

Thick-coated breeds such as golden retrievers shed instead of growing, and need the opposite advice: brushing, a deshedding treatment, and, as a rule, no shaving. That is in the double-coat guide.

Questions

Doodle questions.

How often should a goldendoodle be groomed?

Every 4 to 8 weeks depending on the coat. Dense curly coats do better closer to 4 weeks, and most goldendoodles manage 6 to 8. Stretching to 12 weeks usually leads to matting.

Which price applies to a mini goldendoodle?

Weight decides the size, not the breed name. Pick the size band that matches your dog's weight, and the Curly or doodle coat group. Your groomer confirms at the door and we text you a corrected price, and wait for your yes, if your dog belongs in a different group.

Can I choose the haircut, such as teddy bear or short?

Yes. Tell the groomer what you want in the booking or at the door. A coat that has matted may limit the options, and your groomer will say so before starting.

My doodle is matted. Will you still groom them?

Yes. The groomer shows you the mats and texts the cost, which is priced per 15 minutes, and we start only after you reply yes. A short clip is sometimes the kinder option.

Do you groom doodle puppies?

A puppy's first groom is a shorter, gentler visit. Book it as Puppy intro in the booking flow.

Is a labradoodle's coat the same as a goldendoodle's?

Not necessarily. Doodle coats can be straight, wavy, curly or fleece, they can differ within one litter, and a puppy's coat can change as it matures. Both usually sit in our Curly or doodle coat group.
